What To Do When You’re Single on Valentines Day
Remember when you were growing up watching Disney movies and were conditioned to believe that without a glass slipper you wouldn’t be able to walk on solid ground? That your goal that dictated your every day life and decisions was making sure you’d find that person that was a “perfect fit” and would “sweep you off your feet”?
That every song you sang had the pining undertone of “someday my prince will come”?
Forget that notion. That notion that you need to be pining, constantly searching, and going back into the inner thought process “Why then and not me?”
Don’t compare. Live in the now and find gratefulness in every day life — even in the smallest things, the smallest gestures.
That notion that tells you “I’ll be happy when ____ happens” is not true.
You can be happy now. In this moment.
Those are just lies the enemy is feeding you. Negative thoughts that do not serve you. Instead, believe that you are worthy of love, ARE loved, and are whole and complete just the way you are.
We are loved for he so loved us. Let’s not compare the love we have or give with that of someone else. True love is beyond compare, and does not solely exist in the boyfriend/girlfriend classification.
And in case no one told you lately:
You’re beautiful, just the way you are.
THINGS YOU CAN DO INSTEAD OF MOPING AND FOCUSING ON YOUR RELATIONSHIP STATUS:
- Get off facebook.
- Make sangria! — The idea here is not to drown in our sorrows, but rather to create something beautiful and delicious.
- Buy your own dang edible arrangement! Treat yoself.
- Remember Valentines Day candy is on sale tomorrow.
- Have a girls night. Circle massages, Talenti (or maccaroons or mochi, your call), chick flicks, body pillows, mani pedis - the works. Invite your friends over and make it happen. Can’t be beat.
- Treat yoself. Oh wait, I said that already.
- Who said pampering was a part of the “getting ready to see my crush” process? There are a couple of DIY skincare products I like to make. One is a lip scrub made out of brown sugar and honey. The other is a face mask made out of aloe (for redness), oatmeal (for breakouts), and papaya (the enzymes are SO good for you and your skin needs vitamins to glow!). Soft lips and skin to love yourself with. :)
- Write a letter. This letter may be to a friend who lives far away, a family member, a sibling, or someone you don’t know at all - a complete stranger you spy in the library, a future lover, or to yourself. Whoever you chose, make sure you think of them fondly. Reminisce a bit, and decide whether or not you want to give it to said person (if you know them)
- Spread the love - mini notes. Go to a nearby subway station, nursing home, bus stop, or all the above and give out roses (or pink beauty blenders, decorated water bottles, be creative!) — you’ll make someone’s day for sure (even if you can’t make your own / are feeling down in the dumps).
- Go out! Breathe some fresh air!
- Plan a trip. I know for me, my next destination involves a far away, away from population and very much in nature, cabin. Be open to new ideas and experiences, even if they don’t involve WiFi.
- Go on a hike. Always clears my mind. :)
- Go somewhere. A store, a library, a Boys & Girls Club. Write mini notes on flashcards or post its (could be poems, questions, song lyrics, etc.). Now proceed to hide them around the location! So fun.
- Write a list of things you can do now that you wouldn’t be able to do if you had a significant other/fiancé/husband/kids
Love is Louder when we love without conditions.
What great tips! Thank you :)
